Seal off any air vents in the room, place plastic sheeting on doorways, and install a window fan to pull the air to the outside.  Be sure to wear a respirator, gloves, goggles, and a plastic suit for maximum protection.

Do It Right – With your new make-shift hazmat suit on, it’s time to tackle the mold! For optimal results, or if the moisture is from sewage, you should remove the affected surface itself and rebuild. This will give you the best chance of preventing the mold from re-blooming. If you know for sure that the moisture source was clean, you can get rid of the mold without replacing the material. Use a wet vac or steamer to clear away any wet debris from the surface. Proceed with the scrubbing of the affected area with detergent and water. After it dries, vacuum the surface with a HEPA vacuum.

Double Up – All materials, debris, and clothing should be double-bagged and thrown away. Dispose of any garbage as your normally would. Remember to also clean any vacuums that are used and replace the filters.
